Do I need an account?
No. Synapse works without sign-up. Your encounters and people are stored on your device.
Does Synapse track my location in the background?
No. Location is used only while the app is open, to anchor an encounter to a place. There is no background tracking.
What happens to my photos and contacts?
Photos stay on your device — Synapse just looks at the ones taken around an encounter to match the moment. For contacts, Synapse adds only the specific people you pick; it never reads your whole address book.
Does scanning a business card upload the card anywhere?
No. The card is read by text recognition running on your phone. You see what was read (name, title, company, email, any social links printed on the card) and can fix or discard it before a person is saved.
How do I get a LinkedIn or Instagram profile into Synapse?
Two ways. From the LinkedIn or Instagram app, use the share sheet and pick Synapse — you can attach the profile to someone you’ve already met or save it as a new moment. Or copy the profile link and tap Paste link during capture. Both work offline; the link itself is enough.
Does Synapse read my calendar?
Only if you use From calendar when capturing, and only the event you pick. Its attendees become the people on that encounter. Synapse doesn’t scan your calendar in the background.
How do “things to know” web lookups work?
Facts computed from your own data (a handle you saved, how often you’ve crossed paths) are free and stay on your device. Web lookups are part of Synapse+, are off by default, and are enabled in Settings → Privacy. When on, Synapse looks up a person using the details you already saved about them; every fact that comes back shows its source, and nothing is added to a profile until you approve it.
Can I turn off the weekly recap notification?
Yes — switch it off in Settings inside the app, or in your phone’s notification settings for Synapse. The recap itself is built on your device.
How do I export or delete my data?
Both live in Settings inside the app: export everything, or delete it all. You can also delete individual people or encounters. See the privacy policy for details.
What is Synapse+?
The free core loop is always available. Synapse+ unlocks richer “things to know” enrichment and advanced features. Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) subscription settings.
